A “Free” Buffet!!!

Two weekends ago we had our neighborhood garage sale. My husband and I did a bit of shopping. We didn’t purchase a thing for the booth, but we did find a really cool lawyers bookshelf for Mr. T and a “dancing princess” dress for my daughter.  She was soooo happy!  Her favorite movie right now is “The 12 Dancing Princess”.  It was a Barbie ballet dress-up dress, but she calls it her “dancing princess” dress.  Nothing beats watching a 2 and a half year old twirl in circles!

The Monday after garage sale weekend, I was heading home after picking up my daughter from school and found this little gem in the driveway of the SAME house we bought the bookshelf from with a big “FREE” sign on it!

Oops…I had already taken the hardware off.  It was big, bold and brass!

How did I miss this in the sale?  Oh well…FREE is better, right?  I immediately sent Mr. T a text and told him he had to pick it up on his way home from work.  He has the SUV….I have a 2 door coupe….not to conducive for picking up furniture.  I had ants in my pants hoping no one else would grab it!

It was a little rough and not solid wood, but for FREE….who cares.  It still had good lines and could be cute…right?

I sanded the heck out of the top to smooth out all the water damage, and then primed it!  I decided a light gray would be something different!  So I painted it with some “OOPS” paint from Lowes that I had on hand.  Then I antiqued it with Valspar antiquing glaze (had this on hand too) and waxed it with Minwax dark brown.

I actually wished I had a place to put this in my home.  I really liked it when it was done. But….no place to put it, meant it would be taken to the booth for someone else to enjoy!  It lasted a little less than 24 hours.  Guess I won’t even have time to think about what I could get rid of to move it home. (sob)

Remember, I forgot to get before pics of the hardware, but trust me it they were big, bold and brass! I painted them with Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze….which I love, but it was just too flat for me.  So I lightly sanded the edges of the hardware to reveal some of the original brass, then waxed them as well.  I LOVED the finished result.  It almost had the manufactured “oil rubbed bronze” appearance.  I loved it so much…I may attempt to paint all our brass paddle handle door knobs (love the handles, hate the color) in our house.  So what do you think of the sanding and the end result?

So here is the final reveal, in our booth.  I didn’t get any “real” staged shots because I simply didn’t have time!  I still think the pics turned out great, even though they look a little washed out due to the florescent lighting.
